1. Privacy-First & On-Device Processing

DocScanner is designed as a privacy-first document management tool.

  • 100% Offline Processing: All core functionalities—including camera document scanning, Offline Optical Character Recognition (OCR), QR Code & Barcode reading, document conversions (Image to PDF, MS Word, MS Excel), signature extraction, and stamp creation—are performed entirely on your device.

  • No Cloud Storage: We do not upload, store, transmit, or process your scanned documents, QR/barcode data, images, signatures, extracted text, or created files on external servers or cloud storage. Your data stays entirely on your local device.

2. Device Permissions Required

To provide full functionality, DocScanner requests the following permissions on your Android device:

  • Camera (CAMERA): Used solely to capture physical documents, scan QR codes and barcodes, perform OCR, and extract signatures.

  • Storage/Media (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): Used to allow you to import images or documents from your gallery for scanning or editing, and to save exported files locally.

  • Biometric (USE_BIOMETRIC / USE_FINGERPRINT): Used strictly for the App Lock feature to authenticate your identity locally using PIN or fingerprint. Your biometric data is handled by the Android operating system and is never accessed or stored by our app.

  • Internet Access (INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): Required exclusively for loading advertisements, processing in-app purchases/subscriptions, and handling app updates or crash diagnostics.

  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used to send you relevant app updates, daily credit resets, or feature reminders (optional, based on your preference).

3. Data Collection and Usage

While your documents remain strictly on your device, limited non-personal technical data is processed through integrated Google Play Services and third-party SDKs:

  • Subscriptions & In-App Purchases: We use Google Play Billing to manage Pro Subscriptions and ad-free access. Payment processing is managed securely by Google Play; we do not collect or store your financial information.

  • Advertisements & Reward Credits: We use Google AdMob to show rewarded video ads (allowing users to earn daily credits) and banner/interstitial ads for free users. AdMob may collect anonymous device identifiers (such as Advertising ID) to deliver non-personalized or personalized ads in accordance with Google's ad policies.

  • App Performance & Crash Reporting: We may use basic analytics tools (such as Firebase Crashlytics) to collect crash logs, performance metrics, and app stability data. This data is non-identifiable and helps us fix bugs and improve performance.

4. Data Encryption & Security

  • Data in Transit: Any network communications performed by integrated Google services (such as AdMob and Google Play Billing) are encrypted in transit using standard HTTPS/TLS security protocols.

  • Local Storage: Your app settings, saved signatures, stamps, and profile preferences are stored locally on your device using encrypted Android Room Database storage.

DocScanner operates on a Freemium model:

  • Free Users: Receive 25 free scanning credits daily, with the option to view rewarded video ads for extra credits. Free users are limited to saving 1 signature and 1 stamp.

  • Pro Subscribers: Enjoy an ad-free experience, unlimited document conversions, removal of watermarks, and unlimited signature and stamp saves.
